Looking back on the last six months

As the first half of 2023 is coming to an end, we at R&D want to express our appreciation for all the invaluable support over the last six months. It is through this support that we have been able to make progress in our journey towards a degrowth transformation.

We co-organized the 2023 Beyond Growth Conference that took place from May 15 to 17 at the auspices of the European Parliament and brought together over 7,000 researchers, activists, and politicians in Brussels and online.

This conference marked a historic milestone and will undoubtedly serve as a crucial reference point for the entry of degrowth in the political arena in the future.

At the beginning of July, we successfully organized our annual Degrowth Summer School. We welcomed 28 participants from across the globe to Barcelona. It revolved around the question of policy, based on our Degrowth Briefs project in cooperation with the Green European Foundation.

We are thrilled to continue working on the Degrowth Briefs, aiming to create publications that can change the debate, and shape new perspectives in politics, business, and activism.

Both the 5th cohort of the Master in Political Ecology, Degrowth, and Environmental Justice and the 2nd cohort of the online Master in Degrowth, Ecology, Economics, and Policy have successfully completed their classes in the programs we run with ICTA, UAB.

As always, our researchers continue their groundbreaking research at the frontier of the science of degrowth. Recent publications include a high-profile commentary at the journal Nature, making a case for degrowth policies that warrant investigation.

And as we approach the summer break followed by the 9th International Degrowth Conference in Croatia, we wanted to take the moment to express our gratitude to you for believing in our work. Your continuous support is vital for our fight for a just future within the ecological boundaries.

We wish you and your loved ones a happy and relaxing summer.
